Intergrative Health Coaching

Shiri Ben-Arzi
Coach, Collaborative Therapeutic Communication Expert, Consultant to Health Organizations, Speaker.

I offer coaching and counseling in addition to my work with health organizations, patient associations, medical teams and self-help groups.

I work mostly, but not only, with people that have survived trauma or who are suffering from various types of difficulties and/ or disabilities: chronic illness, physical disabilities, survivors of sexual abuse.

The purpose of what I do is to help people redesign their personal reality so that they can live a fulfilling life of choice. One of my clients described the process as "getting out of a cage and spreading my wings". Another metaphor I use a lot with clients is the metaphor of "climbing a mountain top" and I use it to explain the techniques I work with.

My areas of expertise:

  • creating independence and possibilities of choice in the lives of people living with chronic illness.
  • coping with trauma and reducing the negative effect on daily function.
  • preparation for invasive medical procedures.
  • support and counseling for people with terminal illness.
  • mentoring and supervision for coaches.

There are two techniques, out of the many that I have learned and use in my work, that are my expertise: Coaching and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming).

Coaching
Once we have found a "mountain" we want to climb, there are many different forms of assistance we can receive: a friend, who can give us tips and advice from his own experience; a consultant, who can present us with organized information on climbing techniques and equipment; a mentor, who can demonstrate in an inspiring way how he would climb a "mountain"; a therapist, who could help us understand why we are having difficulties or can assist us in finding ways to cope with the fears and blocks we come across on the way.

Coaching does not replace any of the above; neither does it compete with them. The coaching perspective is that we all have abilities to "climb mountains" and fulfill our life's goals and dreams in the best way we can.

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)
This method is based on the understanding that our ability to cope with what happens to us is a result of our subjective perception of what we call reality. We experience the world through our senses and translate the experience using our personal patterns of mental and emotional behavior.

This means that our emotions and behavior are a result of something that has a neural and linguistic component. NLP adds a quality of "programming" that integrates successful patterns of behavior with the subjective experiences in a way that serves and promotes our ability to "climb mountains" and reach our goals.
